What Is Your Niche Website Business Model?

Before jumping into Affiliate Marketing online business, you need a business model to follow.  Just like any other business, you need treat your niche website as a business. A business model is a strategy for you to follow to generate revenue and make profit from your niche website. A business model will guide you through each step.  It doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy, but you have general idea what you have to do.  In this post, I will be describing simplest business model for creating a niche website to make money.

1. Picking a niche

First process is picking a niche.  First two steps are probably the most important part of the process.  Because you want to pick a niche that is interesting to you and it has low competition, so it can generate some revenue.  First process is brain storming.  Use mind mapping technique if you get stuck.  It helps you really dig into your brain to come up with niches you want to explore.  When you brain storm, make a three columns:

  1. All the things you are good at
  2. All the things you not good at but interested in, and
  3. All things things you are having issues and need solutions.

Take some time to explore each column and try to come up with many things as possible.

2. Niche research

Next process is digging deeper into each niche ideas and see if people are searching for the niche.  Look for few keywords related to each niche and do some research and see how many people are search for those keywords on google.  Make sure there are products you can sell in the niche you choose.  Popular niche isn’t good if there aren’t any product to sell. At the same time, do some research on those keywords to see how competitive is the niche in the market place.  The idea is finding a balance between popular niche and low competition.  There are many ways to do this. Also there are many tools available to help you do this.  This niche research is very important.  You need to take your time to do your research.

3. Pick a domain name and build website

Once you pick your niche, you need to build a website.  In order to build a website, you need a hosting company.  There are many good hosting companies out there and pricing isn’t so bad.  On average, you’ll be spending $6-14 per months on hosting fees.  Most of the hosting will provide you with free domain name.  I’ve been using 1and1 hosting, and so far, it’s a really good hosting company.  If you signup with them, first year is only $.99 a month. It includes free domain name.  After first year, it is $7 a month.

You nee to take some time to think about the domain name for your website.  Here are some things to think about when you choose your domain name:

  1. Think bigger and try to think about brand name for your website.  So when the website does well, you can turn it into authority site.
  2. It is recommended that you use niche keyword in your domain name
  3. Be sure to choose .com domain name
  4. Make sure the domain name is short and easy to remember

Most of web hosting companies made it easy to building a website using WordPress.  For example, installing WordPress website is easy as pressing few clicks in 1and1 hosting. Once you installed your wordpress, you have to spend some time customizing the website so it looks nice and has all the functionalities you want.  This can be bit technical but it is nothing you can’t learn.  We’ll dig into this more later on.

4. Write contents for the website

Soon as you setup your website, you need to take time to write contents for the website. This is probably the most time consuming part of the process.  The contents have to be interesting and useful in the niche you choose.  If you can’t write, you might have to hire someone to write for you.  Hiring someone to write cost money, so it is recommend that you write your own content in the beginning. You have to post lots of contents.  We are talking about 50 or more articles.  More article you write, easier for Google to find you and more traffic you bring it to the website.

5. Promote the website

After website is setup and have some contents, you need to take some time to optimize the website and start promoting it.  Make sure the WordPress website has all the necessary plugins, right theme, and functionality that you need.  Then you have to get out and promote your website. There are many different way to promote your website.  But the bottom line is you have to go where your audiences are.  Your goal is to get on Google search list so you can start bringing traffic to your website organically.  This is the technique part of the section, but nothing you can’t learn to do.

6. Monetize the website

When you start seeing traffic coming in, that is when you start monetizing the website.  This is the easy part. There are many creative ways to monetize the website.  Easiest way is to sell product relating to your niche through affiliate program.  Which product you can sell is something you should be thinking about when you are picking your niche. You are not limited to just affiliate marketing.  Eventually, you can even create your own products to sell.

The process is simple but it isn’t easy.  Each step takes lots of time and effort to master it. Don’t worry if you are lost. There are many free information out there online.  Best method is to learn each step and take action and move on to next step.  If you try to learn all the step at once, you’ll find yourself overwhelm with all the information. You might get discouraged. Besides, it will take too long to master all the sections and you will never get things done. That is the mistake I made. I was trying to learn everything before I took action.  It is important that you start implementing soon as possible, because that is the best way to learn. Most likely you will fail. That is expected. But it is learning process and you can continue to push it and make it better.  Just remember, you are not a failure unless you give up.
