How to Add Google Adsense Ad on your WordPress Website

Google AdSense is an advertising placement service by Google. The program is designed for website publishers who want to display targeted text, video or image advertisements on website pages and earn money when site visitors view or click the ads.  There are many ways to add Google Adsense on your WordPress Website.  But the easiest way is to use WordPress TEXT widget.

1. Signup with Google Adsense

First, you need account with Google Adsense.  If you don’t have one, go ahead and signup.  It’s free to signup.  Go to to signup.

2. Create Your Ad

To get started, first thing you need to do is create your ad.  Once you login to your Google Adsense account, click on My Ads on your left column.

Next, click on New Ad Unit.

Next, fill in the information for your Ad Unit.  Pay attention to Name, and Ad Size, and Ad type.  To get started, you can leave as default setting.  Remember you can always go back and change the setting later on.  When you are done, click on SAVE and GET CODE.

Once you click on SAVE and GET CODE button, you’ll get codes you need to copy and paste into your WordPress website.  Go ahead and copy the codes.  Be sure to copy the all the codes start to finish. Click CLOSE when you are done.

3. Use your TEXT Widget

Now go to your WordPress website administrator’s page.  Go to Appearance and then widgets.

Scroll down to your list of all the widgets.  You are looking for TEXT widget.  TEXT widget is basic WordPress widget. It is included when you install WordPress, so you should be able to find it easily.

4. Where to put your Ad?

Before you paste Google Adsense code to your TEXT widget, you have to figure out where you are going to put your ad.  In this example, we are going to put the ads on the side bar.  You are not limited to just your side bar. Each WordPress is going to bit different since each WordPress uses different theme.  But the basic idea is same.  This TEXT widget can go lots of different place, so if you don’t have side bar, look around to see where you can put your TEXT widget.  Worst case, you might have to change to different theme.

Once you figure out where you want to put your Ad, you can drag the TEXT widget to your section of your desire.  In this example, we are going to drag the TEXT widget to SIDEBAR ONE.

Paste the code to the widget

In our previous step, we copied the Google Adsense code. Here, we are going to paste the code to CONTENT section of the TEXT widget.  Verified that all the code is copied to your TEXT Widget.  If just one code is missing, it’s not going to work. Next, click SAVE.  You can leave the Title blank. When you are done, click CLOSE to close the TEXT Widget.

Verify the ad

That’s all you have to do.  Once you finish placing the Google Adsense on your TEXT widget, you’ll see the result right away.  Go to your WordPress website and verified that the ad is running.  You might have to Refresh your website if you don’t see the ad.

If your web browser has Ad-blocker running, you should disable it, or you will not see the ad.
